Khalsa Kirpans
The Handmade Knives & Swords
of Jot Singh Khalsa
Sat Nam and hello,
For decades Sikhs all over the world have requested me to make a handsome and practical kirpan they could be proud to own and wear that would be affordable - more affordable than what's in the 'Gallery' on this website. We have worked diligently over almost 3 years now, to design kirpans we believe to be among the finest ever created. These are being entirely handmade to precise tolerances, by a very respected and in high-demand manufacturer. We have them in stock and you can pay for one or several for yourself and/or your loved ones now.
The 6 inch/15.2cm blade (11.75 inch/29.8cm overall length including handle) Artisan-made Kirpans are ready to ship in maroon (original color), black and ivory*. We expect a smaller 3 inch/7.6cm blade (5.75 inch/14.6cm overall length including handle) Compact kirpan before the end of 2010, also in these three colors with a slightly different handle design than the original. (Pictured with the original kirpan here upper left.) You can pre-order and pay for the smaller Compact Artisan-Made kirpans now and we will ship as soon as we receive and inspect them. (Read testimonials from some of our kirpan recipients below.)

Materials & Production
Blade length is 6 inches (15.24cm) or 3 inches (7.62cm) and ground from the best Japanese (AUS 8) stainless steel. The materials for the handle and sheath inserts are dark maroon linen, black linen, or ivory* paper micarta (layered phenolic resin.) My priority in choosing these materials has been that they should look great and be very durable. These are entry-level kirpans of the highest quality which come in a lovely navy blue and gold embroidered zipper pouch. A high quality and beautiful, silver and black or silver and white gatra (kirpan strap) is provided, fitting the kirpan perfectly. Also included is a full color 16-page booklet with comprehensive details of the kirpan, inspired history and significance of the kirpan, and milestones, awards, images and particulars of important works produced through Khalsa Kirpans. I'm hoping to continue to offer different sizes and designs, as well as various options for handle, sheath and blade materials.
I’m hoping to eventually produce several sizes and designs, as well as having various options for handle, sheath and blade materials.
Sarb Loh
At the time of Guru Gobind Singh "Sarb Loh" was the best blade material available for a kirpan that might see duty on the battlefield. Today with modern technologies utilized in steel production, we have better edge holding, ductility (toughness; won't break) and stain resistant options. These qualities serve in our excellent blade steel choice for these kirpans.

* - Different than the black and maroon linen micartas we use, ivory is not available in linen, and comes in 'paper' based material. This is a very handsome handle/sheath material (akin to real ivory in appearance) yet may be more susceptible to chipping or cracking upon forceful impact with very hard surfaces (concrete, stone, metal, etc.) As with all of our kirpans, such damage is not covered under our existing warranty, but in many cases repairs can be made through or by Khalsa Kirpans at extra cost. Over the years, ivory micarta may also yellow some - a phenomenon not uncommon with contemporary and ancient 'tusk' ivories.
